set a dollar or percentage threshold for the public campaign to commence. A construction date has not been set.

The donor made the gift through a transfer of stock Dec. 30, Cooper said. The library wanted to wait until after the holidays to make the announcement, she said.

The major gifts phase of the $2.5 million campaign kicked off in fall 2013. With the addition of the large gift, the campaign has raised $1,220,896.03 through pledges and other private and staff donations.

The first library in the system opened in 1905 at 397 E. Central St. It was called the Carnegie Library and is now the Midtown Carnegie Branch Library.
